"Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don't bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live!" -Bob Marley
I am often times writing about how some people are so important and influential in my life, my brother Andy is one of those individuals. The best way to describe him is simply he is a bad-ass. He's been through a lot, two broken legs, a hospital stay for pneumonia and growing up with me as his brother, and he's a tough dude for it.
One thing that he definitely has a knack for is music, he has an uncanny ability to find and arrange songs in such away that he can evoke feelings, memories and completely change your mood. His skills can only be fully understood by experiencing it firsthand, he has a successful on-going DJ gig every-other Friday at Megan Macmurphy's, a local bar and is aways looking for new opportunities to play. His personal music tastes are quite diverse, he enjoys old school R&B soul, Hip-hop, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson and Green day to name just few from his extensive list.
Though music is big part of Andy's life, there is so much more to him, we've spent countless hours discussing every topic imaginable from religion, politics, hot women, movies, music, the universe, to the meaning of life. To the casual observer our conversations sometimes appear to be an argument but we have a certain way of speaking to each-other that few would understand, he constantly is challenging my thoughts and opinions which keeps my mind sharp and my thoughts well rounded. My brother and I both having DMD puts us in a unique position where we are able to commiserate about and discuss our situation, probably no one else has a better understanding of my life than him. Our similar circumstances have given us the same realization for what is important in life, that being said are personalities are completely different though. Andy is a conflicted, thoughtful and complex amateur philosopher type and while he doesn't say as much as I do by sheer amount (thank god haha!) What he does say is usually witty, sarcastic or meaningful. He is very interested in the wisdom of people such as John Lennon and Bob Marley, he has a certain distain for the close-mindedness that society sometimes possesses. He is a big fan of Robert De Niro and loves the movie Taxi Driver.
Though we do definitely act like brothers, giving each-other heavy doses of shit on a daily basis, as with both my brothers I also consider him a very close friend.
And to all the ignorant people out in public:
WE ARE NOT F***ING TWINS!!
Make sure to "like" Andy's DJ page on Facebook:
Ps. By Andrew's request Gemma Arterton!
I am jealous of your relationship with your brother! With mine, it's lucky if you get more than two words in response to a question!
